people who know me know that i'm not a particularly superstitious person, now and for the foreseeable future. however, lately a number of coincidences have been brought to my attention. what number that is i haven't kept track but perhaps documenting them may be of some use (for entertainment purposes only).
tonight i was watching Conan and his first guest was to be someone with animal friends. i do love animal friends so i stuck around despite resolving to pass some time over at the Life Cafe eventually. the last of these animals was the deadly Gabon Viper.
since i didn't know who'd be over at Life, i wanted to take reading material in case i had to entertain myself. after perusing my bookshelf i decided on the collected Best Science Writing of 2003, a volume i've only read sparingly so far. when i get to Life, i scan through the book a bit and decide that maybe it's time to just start from the beginning and just skip the articles i've already read. this first article is about a journey through a national park in the Congo. on the 3rd or 5th page, is a warning the author had relayed from his guides about the deady Gabon Viper.
what makes this odd is that, even with a terrific appetite for zoological information, i can't remember the last time i've read or heard about the Gabon Viper in any sort of specific sense. this isn't the north american rattlesnake or copperhead. or even a boa constrictor.
coicidences do happen, and it's been postulated that ones mental state can enhance ones appraisal of their importance, i'm interested in how readily this can be applied to me right now.
